Ships line up to enter the Port of #Buffalo in 1958, the year before the St. Lawrence Seaway opened. The port annually handled more than 20 million tons of cargo back then. The total dropped below 2 million tons by 2002.
Optimism about the St. Lawrence Seaway proved to be dangerously misguided.

The Larkin Administration Building, Frank Lloyd Wright’s first commercial commission, was hailed as a masterwork upon its completion in 1906. Its design was “without equal in the whole of Europe,” said Holland’s state architect, H.P. Berlage, after he visited #Buffalo. #TurningPoints  
Preservation advocates insist that the demolition of the Larkin Administration Building was a key loss for Buffalo.

Business First has ranked the affluence of all 861 cities and towns in the 48-county #UpstateNY region, using official data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Villages are not included because they are subdivisions of towns.
