Staring into the abyss is absolutely terrifying!  I think that I have experienced the 'sanity-cracking fear' that the linked article describes.  This may partially explain the disturbing dreams that I have nearly every night now.  Though I have had vivid dreams since I was a young child, these recent dreams have been unusually troubling because they reflect my existential angst and my longing for meaning and purpose in life.  Were I born in AD 1400, I would be dreaming of Armageddon and the Final Judgment;  because I was born in a scientific age, I dream of the collapse of civilization, the extinction of humanity, the earth's transformation over eons of time, and the sun's transformation into a red giant.  These experiences are disturbing, but they do provide me with inspiration for my creative endeavours.  Coming to terms with the fact that the universe is cold, harsh, and uncaring is difficult;  I am deeply troubled by the fact that the laws of nature are heartlessly unconcerned with the fate of humanity.  Now I know why the relentless pursuit of truth is not for everyone.

The following is a blog post by Free Northerner on the subject of 'inner beauty' and the ways in which this concept is abused in our culture:  http://freenortherner.com/2014/03/14/inner-beauty/  .

+Michael Anissimov, I enjoyed your recent post on More Right, so I am linking to it here.  I consider traditional conservatives and right-libertarians to be my political and cultural allies, and I am a neoreactionary;  your recent article should be recommended reading for my allies on the right.  I especially like the last line.  Keep up the good work!

This documentary highlights some of the problems that I have with (post)modern art.  I recommend watching the whole thing, when you have the time to do so.
