The latest Star Wars flick is still months away from the big screen, but Sphero’s latest app-enabled robot may be closer to store shelves than the movie itself. Sphero’s BB-8 toy replica was teased on the company’s website a few months back, but now we’ve got some real evidence from Sphero and Imgur (a highly credible source FYI).

Chinese drone companies like the well-known DJI and the recently-funded EHANG have already taken flight, but additional competition between these companies is brewing. Yuneec, a Chinese company that manufactures consumer and professional-grade drones, has partnered up with and received an over $60 million investment from Intel to launch drones that “will truly change the world.” So they say.

In December 2013, Jeff Bezos announced the concept of Prime Air, an Amazon service which would enable customers to have products delivered straight to their doorstep in 30 minutes. They plan on employing thousands of drones to deliver these packages. While this idea seemed outlandish and futuristic at the time, it may become a real service sooner than we think.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Jeff Bezos stated that the main roadblock to Prime Air in the US are Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.

MegaBots is giving Kickstarter another try, but this time, they’re backed up by a full-fledged team, media attention, and hype. MegaBots is the California-based company that challenged Japan to a giant robot duel back in early July. They’ve assembled a crack team to build Team USA’s MegaBot, but they still need to raise over $500,000 to give the robot necessary armor, speed, and weapons upgrades.

FANUC has announced that they will be acquiring 6% of Preferred Networks for ¥900 million ($7.3 million) to develop industrial machines that utilize “deep learning” to improve performance. When robots are incorporated in manufacturing processes, it can take a lot of time and effort on the part of human operators to troubleshoot issues and repair machines after a failure occurs. Most robots are hard coded to perform a specific task, and when equipment breaks or there is a bug in the software, robots tend to shut down and leave the problem solving to the engineers. This can take a huge toll on a business as production is slowed and a machine incurs downtime. Instead of humans having to analyze the failure modes of machines, why don’t we let the machines do the work themselves? FANUC’s Chief Executive Yoshiharu Inaba hopes to use learning methods to combat this downside of automation and believes that Preferred Networks is “the world’s most advanced in terms of deep-learning expertise.”

Interesting.
I've dealt with one of their punch turrets, and their LED codes aren't terrible, but sometimes they throw something just s little different than what's in the manual.
With so much complexity and so many parts to potentially fail, better self monitoring would be a welcomed addition.
Even if it were just to get them to the level of diagnostics in automobiles these days.

Meet Myo. Myo is a gesture control armband that transforms body movement into a digital controller. It’s developed by the Ontario-based Thalmic Labs, and can be used to control digital software like presentations, music players, and even Minecraft. But Myo doesn’t stop there; it can even control physical hardware such as the Parrot MiniDrone Rolling Spider and Sphero robotic ball.
Myo is a gesture control wearable that gives you the power to control software and hardware through body movements. Here's how well it actually works.
