My name is Lauren Burg and I'm a writer and photographer. Since I was little, sports have been a wonderful outlet for me to escape the stresses of everyday life. I grew up in a football family, always rooting for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, USF Bulls and Auburn Tigers. Then, in 2004, I watched the Tampa Bay Lightning's Stanley Cup run. Following the 2004-05' lockout I attended my first game, and instantly became hooked. Hockey remains a major part of my life, though I also recently became a fan of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. I started out wanting to be an author, finding writing to be another outlet for my feelings. Since then, beginning in earnest when I became a hockey fan in April 2004, I realized that everyone has some sort of story to tell. This includes athletes. In order to get their story out, they need the help of writers and photographers who will tell it in a way that's compelling to readers. I first got the chance to write for publication in high school, beginning as a Staff Writer before becoming Sports Editor. I was also offered an opportunity to cover high school athletics for the Tampa Bay Times (formerly St. Petersburg Times) in Aug. 2007, and instantly accepted. That turned out to be a great thing, as it helped me transform my writing from good to great which opened the door to a number of other amazing opportunities. For that, I'm eternally grateful.
