Looking through the CDs I currently have and what I have on the way, it seems I really have fallen in love with the psychedelia scene and I'm really happy about that. I know only one other person who's as heavy into it as I am, although I wish I knew more. I guess it's just a rare taste.

I do still buy non-psychedelic music but that's mostly from Ultimae Records. I've been keeping a watchful eye on Altar, Suntrip, Zion 604 and DAT recently, with many others watched in my Bandcamp list.

They arrived!

I'm already flowing through a bunch of tracks that I love the most that have all sorts of different sounds and effects. It's incredibly weird as I'm hearing more detail on these. They not only look high-quality, but they really feel it, too.

It's the end of October so it's been a year since I bought my CD player and started listening to music through physical media again. When I first bought the player, I think I had around 50 or so releases on CD to listen to. Now, that number sits at 170 and it only continues to grow.

The shift back to physical media has had a really big impact on me. I can honestly say, I get a much better experience listening to music through CDs than just playing it on my PC or phone. It's more enjoyable and it's a great way to fight against major depression.

The player it's self has to be the best purchase I've ever made in terms of audio. It wasn't expensive, has the best audio quality I've ever heard and it has a year left on it's warranty yet it has not given me a single issue since Onkyo have built it like a tank.

Here's to a year of physical media which I really hope never dies off. I really don't want to ever touch this cloud and streaming stuff that is becoming popular. I want something to hold, as if I actually own a copy of the music. Thankfully, I see CD releases increasing within the indie scene, which is how I can get so many of them anyway.

Asura's newest album, Radio Universe, is out now!

The CD version is unfortunately delayed until the 4th of November due to a pressing error but you can still grab the download in a lossless format.

I can honestly say, this is the album of 2014 for me. Asura has taken all the excellence of his former albums, sprinkled in new ideas and successfully made a masterpiece.

I've had a good chance to listen to a variety of electronic music on the new headphones. The bass is punchy yet deep, the mids are nicely even but what really got me is the highs. They're very noticeable but they do not hurt my ears. Some of the music I have contain sounds, usually at just one point during a track, where it is either heavily distorted or pitches very high. On the Sennheiser headphones I have, those sounds would require me to turn the volume down quite sharply. On these from Beyerdynamic? Those sounds aren't even loud any more, they stay even with the rest of the music. This is such an amazing relief on my ears.

These headphones have also proven my CD player is capable of driving high-power headphones, since the volume is only sitting around half way to get some decent volume out of them. Plugging them straight into the CD player is giving the best results, which isn't surprising.

I've got so much music to listen through again as these headphones are giving me details I once missed.

I've just thrown in an order on Amazon for a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770s, the 250 ohm version. I wanted to try a different brand from Sennheiser that are closed-back and these get really good ratings.
