Scored a cheap pair of lo-tops today. The tradition of getting fancy as hell with the lacing continues.

Ah, Poly Bridge. Where one can get all fancy with elegant bridges that despite using identical modules end up asymmetric due to one side starting off retracted while the other is extended, and since both use maximum stroke on their hydraulics the differing base lengths become significant... or you can brute-force-and-ignorance a problem to produce this: http://gallery.drycactus.com/image/view/304570

This is not the version I saw live, back in 2005. It's expanded, with a couple more songs. It still has so very many goosebump moments; this is worth listening to.

A folk opera, based on a concept album about the life of a massive pain in the arse to both sides in the English Civil War. It shouldn't work, but it does.

It seems somewhat appropriate that using the correct equipment, a rocket plume looks like the special effect for "sufficiently advanced technology has just torn a hole in the sky"...

Finally got my thoughts into some sort of order.

If you're into survival games, I strongly recommend The Long Dark. You're alone in northern Canada, it's winter (and will remain winter forever; seasons are not implemented yet), an unexplained catastrophe has a) buggered all electrical things forever and b) made all the wolves and bears aggressive, and your one goal is: don't die. Ways you can die range from hypothermia, starvation, and dehydration through to infection (from wolf or bear bites), intestinal parasites, dysentery, or just plain blunt trauma should you be foolish enough to attempt to jump down from that ledge. Snow is soft, sure, but there are rocks and shit under it that'll ruin you.

I'm about 15 days in, in game time, and have already completed a migration from one map to another, and made myself deerskin boots and trousers.

"Of course it looks dim. All the rest are in blowtorch mode, thoroughly overexposed." I wish TV displays in stores weren't turned up to "eye-searing"...
