If you are like me, you don't use many web pages that require java on a daily basis.  With this zero day exploit on the loose, it seems much safer to just disable Java in the browser by default.  If I do run into a page that really needs it, I can fire up firebox (my backup browser), and use that with java enabled.

Amazing story.  This kid is 15 years old, and has come up with a cheap and fast test for pancreatic cancer that is about as simple as the one used by diabetics to test their blood sugar.  Pancreatic cancer has one of the highest mortality rates, since it is difficult (until now), to detect until the cancer is in late stages and there are few treatment options.  Apparently the test will also work with some other cancers as well.

Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson.  Intriguing love story where you aren't really sure about gender.   I was absolutely awe-struck by how the author made me as the reader, feel like an essential part of the telling of the story.  Brilliant work.

One of the many reasons I love reddit.   Short, but some of the best writing I've encountered in ages.  Simply brilliant.

This is the coolest thing I've seen this week - this guy is seriously talented, and appears to be super smart.  Music and physics seem to be a good combo.  Feynman was a great bongo player, and  Henry Reich from MinutePhysics also is an amazing musician (Mandolin).  I'll bet there are more examples too.  Anyway, I suggest you check out the video -- even if you don't love quantum physics, you'll enjoy it.

Loved this video.  Bet you can't watch it without grinning.
