I'm curious to see how many people actually look at posts here on Google+ and must admit I am thinking of abandoning this project. Anyway here goes with another attempt. The face-off community head towards a nervous birder. Great White Pelican can be as intimidating as they are beautiful, their huge size becomes apparent the closer you get.

Sifting through photographs from earlier in the year, it drives home to me how much of a passion I have for Waders / Shorebirds, at least that is the case, if the sheer number of photos I’d taken of these wonderful birds is anything to go by. Among the number of photos taken I’d say one of the favourite species was Little Stint, comical, compact and entertaining, always busy and so much fun to observe.

It is an amusing time of year to be around a rookery and see the various communities of Heron attending their young. Here a Little Egret has made it’s way to the canopy and stretches the wings, preparing for independence. Soon many of the young will disperse across surrounding wetlands and rice paddies.

Good to be among raptors the other day and enjoy their company. Bonelli's, Booted and Short-toed Eagle showing well and Griffon and Egyptian Vulture passing overhead. Lesser Kestrel in good numbers following the wheat harvest.. Happy to have had the opportunity to get a snapshot of a Short-toed Eagle, life in my mountains is a true love affair.

A special moment spent at this particular rookery as a Little Egret juvenile made it's way to the tree canopy for it's very first view of the outside world.

There are beautiful birds and there are others that you have to think about... Cattle Egret (Mr Angry) is one of the latter... Always a fun bird to watch.

Temperatures rise and the insect hatch is going well, butterflies everywhere and the number of emerging species increasing, later than usual, but better late than never. #serraniaderonda

Many folk will know of my overriding passion for Wheatear species. Here, in my paradise land, I can indulge this obsessive behaviour and spend time studying my all time favourite Black Wheatear. Yesterday was intended as a butterfly and insect day, yet a chance encounter with a pair of Black Wheatear, busy feeding their 2nd brood, was a showstopper. Thanks to the Wheatear gods for their intervention.

Female Bee Eater, both parents are feeding young like crazy at the moment. Won't be long before the young are on the wing. Serrania de Ronda, Andalucia. #serraniaderonda
