Collecting information from users without their knowledge or consent is not only becoming a concern to law makers world-wide but more and more online users are becoming aware of the process.

This causes consumers to look negatively towards companies making use of private data that was secretly collected about them. And that's something brands should be very aware of.

Think of someone coming to your doorstep after they've found your private home address from some unrelated list. Oh and they don't stop there. They continue: "I've been watching you every night, and it seems you are having trouble sleeping, perhaps you'd be interested in a new mattress?" Scary thought no?

Think this comparison is too much? I tend to disagree. With today's technology, computers are very personal. We see them more as an extension of ourselves rather than just a machine we type on. They are, in every account, as personal as our homes.

While we can understand Advertiser's stance that they want this information to better target their marketing. After all they spend a lot of money and it shouldn't go to waste in "shooting blanks" into the dark.

However, personal information is, well, personal. Its no surprise people are starting to defend their rights of privacy and freedom from un-tracked surfing.
