That's an interesting observation. I wonder how you can determine if something is a mistake if you don't already understand at least some of the patterns?

In which case, having the mistakes should not be that big an issue, as you can correct them.﻿

AFAIK, most ancient texts are purely administrative bookkeeping (that's why script usually is invented at first), so maybe it's a matter of "adding up" symbols?﻿
