The Jura wine book is advancing and you can see some pages by looking at this latest post... and you can even buy it in advance at http://www.winetravelmedia.com/product/jura-wine-advanced-sales/
Keeping all fingers and toes crossed for no disasters, my book Jura Wine will be published as promised in April 2014, in less than four months’ time - it may even be available at the end of March. ...

No problem with the quality, but the quantity of grapes harvested in Jura  in 2013 was pitifully low. More details on this new post.
You won’t usually hear wine public relations or marketing people use the word ‘catastrophe’ either in English or French, but I am beginning to wonder whether the meaning is subtly different in cont...

In preparation for the Jura Wine book, a little study into the region's most important cheese.... With photos and a video by +Brett Jones.
As part of preparations for the Jura wine book, on our visits to the region earlier this year we were not only eating the local cheeses as we always do, but learning about them too. Of course, we s...

Another excerpt from the Jura Wine book - this time about woman wine producer Marie-Pierre Chevassu-Fassenet based in Château-Chalon. The vineyards all have stone markers as shown in this photo ©Mick Rock/Cephas.
The number of vigneronnes or women winegrowers in the Jura is small, but they are all strong characters who have built up great respect for their wines. Managing her 4.5ha of vineyards from vine to...

A second excerpt from the Jura Wine book focusing on a lesser-known producer in Montigny. Valérie Tissot will be at the London Wines of Jura tasting tomorrow - so will Mick Rock who took this photograph. Hope to see many of you (UK trade/press) there - we will be celebrating my book at 1pm.
As I write, last minute preparations are taking place for the second annual official Wines of Jura trade tasting in London, which takes place tomorrow. Twenty producers will be present each showing...

In case you missed the news, the Jura book is out - new post on where I'll be signing and selling it in the next 2 months, and where to buy it.
Since the arrival of the printed books in mid-March and dealing with the logistics of sending them out to people from over 25 countries around the world, life has been somewhat exciting. The commen...

Dreaming of Provence?
New post on the rather neglected Wine Travel Guides blog written by Liz Gabay MW with photos by her and Mick Rock of Cephas.
Despite its diminutive name, Les Alpilles, literally meaning the Little Alps is a rich and diverse area which makes it a popular tourist destination. During the summer, it may be one to avoid if tr...

New Jura wine blog post to honour the 2013 harvest of Château-Chalon vineyards which will start next week.
Last month on my very last full research visit in preparation for the book, I spent most of the time around Château-Chalon, visiting producers there and in Ménétru-le-Vignoble, Névy-sur-Seille, Voi...

Freelance Wine and Travel Writer, Editor and Educator
Introduction
I've worked in wine for ever, first in the trade, then running courses, working in editorial offices on wine books, writing articles and contributing to books.

What I do these days:
  • I am a freelance wine writer, editor and educator, dividing my time between London, UK and Haute Savoie, France.
  • My little speciality areas in wine are Jura and Savoie, but I know most of the world of wine pretty well.
  • I've also recently done some travel writing and editng about my speciality areas of Jura and the French Alps. Might like to do some more!
  • My very own baby is Wine Travel Guides, the website launched in 2007, with on-line travel guides to wine regions in Europe, and always on the look-out for ideas to really make this project fly.
You might want to read my LinkedIn profile or take a look at my personal website/blog.

I won the the Wine Tourism category in the first Born Digital Wine Awards. Jancis Robinson wrote in Aug 2011 "Just wanted to thank you, Wink, for all the invaluable help you have given with our forthcoming massive book about grape varieties (Sept 2012). We are very lucky to have you as an informant - and I hope Jura and Savoie truly appreciate all you do for them too!"
