UPDATE - CLOSING DOWN OF G+:

We're talking directly with Google regarding the future of GEG communities. They will be communicating an official line to us, and we will then let you know where this community will be hosted. Watch this spot.

Today's announcement that G+ will be shutting down within the next 10 months came as a surprise, but not a shock. Until we find a new home, our G+ community will be business as usual. Once we find out where GEGs will be living we'll communicate that with you.

Today is World Teachers’ Day, celebrated annually to honor the importance of our classroom heroes. At Google, we constantly look for ways to give teachers the support, elevation and appreciation they deserve, all year round. When we’re in school, teachers are our most important cheerleaders and advocates, so this World Teachers’ Day, it’s time for all of us to return the favor.

We’ve put together a film to capture some of the magic of teachers, built from real Search Trends around the world. Continuing on the $250 million we’ve given to education nonprofits since 2005 - with over $60 million focused on teachers - we’re announcing a $3.5 million grant to CommonLit to help expand their teacher resources globally. We are also encouraging the public to join us in donating to teacher-focused organizations around the world.

We recognize the importance of giving teachers a platform to share their voices, inspiring our new partnership with TED-Ed, ISTE and CCSSO to launch a new Educator Talks channel and initiative. We hope this will help build on our existing work to promote the stories of teachers and creators going above and beyond to support their students, encourage their communities, and improve their skills.

To see how and where teaching happens in classrooms around the world, we’ve also put together a new “This is School” Google Earth Voyager experience. And as always, we offer resources and communities to help teachers connect and grow.

We are honored that teachers are consistently coming to Google for help, and we hope you will join us today in celebrating all that teachers do by sharing a teacher who has inspired you to continue learning.
