This is a long overdue review of Hillside Supper Club. We had our rehearsal dinner there in July of 2013 (I knooooooooow... a while ago, but I've been busy). We were excited about the idea of having our rehearsal dinner just down the street from where we live at a restaurant opened by two young chefs who partially funded through kick-starter (my hub's secret addiction). We wanted to do most everything that we could locally for our wedding (this includes our rehearsal dinner). I worked in restaurants for a long time, so I think that this gives me a unique perspective about what is/is not reasonable to ask of a restaurant (especially a new one). Asking to do dinner for 15-20 people between 7 and 8 is not reasonable for most restaurants on a Friday or Saturday night, and if you do, you should be prepared for disappointment. So, we did an early dinner. 5:30pm. This was great because we had impromptu cocktails after dinner at Wildside West (which aside from there grumpy bartender, was AWESOME). Our rehearsal dinner (like our wedding dinner) was family style, and honestly, I think this is the best way to serve a group of people (and keep them all happy). The food comes out at the same time, it's all hot, and if you want more it's on the table right in front of you. I called and spoke with one of the chef's brothers, and then received an email from Tony (chef). I like corresponding via email. It's all in writing, and easily referenced. Plus I don't like talking on the phone. The menu we decided on: Market Salad Chorizo Casoulette Pork Shoulder with Peach Slaw Assortment of current desserts A leap of faith: we didn't eat at Hillside Supper Club until the week before the wedding. My husband was out of town a lot that summer, and it was the only time we could make it in. As we hoped, we loved our trial dinner. Phew! The night before the wedding, parking was easy, even though it was a Friday night (BONUS, this is SF, and we had quite a few people driving). I got there early with flowers in vases (gifts for the women in the wedding party). Hillside had beautiful flowers on the table already. The table was set in an L-shape, which was perfect for conversation. Dinner came out at a great pace. The food was wonderful. It was a beautiful, low-key, rehearsal dinner. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Thanks so much Hillside for coming through for us, and hosting an amazing rehearsal dinner!!!!

Food was great and very well presented. Place was also not very busy for a Saturday night, sat a party of 7 of us right away at 6pm. Entries are in the $25 range.

The food at Hillside is superb - as good as any restaurant in nearby Mission, and much better value. The decor is basic, but charming. Staff are friendly and attentive. But the food is awesome! Check it out while it's still relatively undiscovered.

Brunch food was fresh and delicious. Portion size was just right - I left full but not bloated (for comparison, a burrito at The Little Chihuahua is usually just about right for me). Reasonably priced as well. Neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, and the decor has a rustic feel to it.

We have had both brunch and dinner here and both were phenomenal. The chef/owers are doing it right - a warm atmosphere, attentive staff, and simple but savory meals (good prices too). They have a great chefs table on the upper level that the chef's family made. Overall a great neightborhood spot!

Fairly disappointing experience. Food was uninspiring given prices, had hoped for more given menu and nice space.
