You'll hear a lot about Dooger's if you visit the Seaside area, largely because it's a somewhat upscale eatery centrally located on Broadway St., which makes it an easy name to include in tourist pamphlets. The atmosphere is exactly alright. Not really good or bad. It's pleasant enough to have a whole meal there, but there's nothing striking about the design of the place, the art around the restaurant, or even the plating of your food. With respect to taste, I can only comment on a few dishes. The clam chowder is rather runny, but taste-wise it's certainly an acceptable representation of the coastal tradition. The fish and chips on the other hand really leave something to be desired. Well, the fish at least. The sweet potato fries are well done. But the mainstay of coastal fish dishes falls flat on its face with unusually lite breading around a fish that tastes no fresher than you'd be able to find quite a ways inland. It's not terrible or anything, but the payout isn't worth what you pay in. And that's probably the biggest strike against Dooger's. What they serve just doesn't seem to be worth the notable price tag on most of their dishes. If you're looking for a Seaside experience, sure, go Dooger's. If you're looking for real quality seafood, I'd recommend you invest your money elsewhere.

Staff was not friendly. The woman cashier didn't ask how our meal was, she just put the credit card slip down on the counter and counted cash from the register in front of us. Our waitress messed up my order and never apologized. Overall it was just an unpleasant experience. I will not eat there again.

Possibly the worst meal I've had in years. Ordered the calamari lunch special, wife had crab cakes and clam chowder. Clam chowder came out first and was watery milk with a few potato chunks. Calamari arrived, barely warm, just about defrosted, tasteless and disconcertingly not fresh. Crab cakes came covered in jar hollandaise, again barely warm and SUPER greasy. Sweat potato fries were inedible with a dreadful taste. Honestly eating here almost ruined our day.

I would say that the staff was super friendly and helpful. In fact I tipped extra because how good they were. But the food was just ok. Ordered calamari and it was just not good, got a ceaser salad and it tasted like ranch dressing, had it taken back and got a different dressing and still not much better. My wife and I ordered fish and chips and have to say i really enjoyed those. We got the halibut. Also got the clam chowder and thought it was great. Overall i would say stick to the clam chowder and the fish and chips, nothing else we got was worth writing home about. Probably won't go back until we forget why didn't like it the first time.

Kind of at a loss--the food was not bad, it was just not really anything more than "fried". Would have been top-notch in 1975...now just sort of functional beach fare. Big slab-o-Texas toast served with everything really drags down the ambiance and quality. Ate here on a busy Friday at lunch--height of the summer season, when they should be firing on all cylinders. At least it was served hot and fresh; good service and waitress. Smallish portions, IMHO. The fried calamari is "clam strip"-style: not rings and tentacles, but sort of bland, white sticks, somewhat indistinguishable from the fries. Good sweet potato fries. Burgers looked good--lots of folks getting burgers. Not great fried fish (and we tried both the cod and the halibut). Saw some of the linguini--looked nasty. Chicken strips for the kiddos were out of a bag. Would not return.

Without question, one of the blandest meals I've ever had. The $22 filet mignon tasted like...plain steak. The Cosmopolitan and Long Island were strong, but it was just booze, not enjoyable cocktails. Even the shrimp in the salad tasted old. The service was pleasant, but I left feeling like I'd been to the Denny's of surf and turf. Not recommended.
