Peggy Nolan has being an elected member to Local Government in Longford for the past 15 years, and it came as no surprise that she had plenty to say when she sat down with Johnny Fallon recently to discuss her campaign for re-election in May.

The topic of Local Health Services, or lack of , played a major part in the conversation, and Peggy was typically passionate in defending her work in the general health area over many years, stating that it was the removal of services from Longford County Hospital that motivated her to become involved in local politics in the first place.

Peggy didn’t shy away from going into detail, discussing the HSE Official who refused to answer her questions after making her wait 18 months for an interview, to her personally chasing down senior management at Iceland to encourage them to locate a new store in Co Longford, and to what cross-party set-up she would organise regarding how to promote Longford for inward investment should she retain her seat.

While she says she operates  always with a “Sense of truth and fairness” in her work, she did not disagree it seems with Johnny when he made the argument that the sense of unfairness towards Longford in Government Policy has accelerated under the current Fine Gael administration , but did argue that she believed Fine Gael would assist Longford further when the economy improves in future years.

“A shrinking violet” is most definitely a term that is NOT applicable to Cllr Peggy Nolan :)

We would like to thank Peggy for her time in making herself available to be interviewed, and we wish her and all the election candidates the best in their election campaigns.

http://longfordlocal.com/seamus-butler-interview-local-election-series/
Longford businessman Seamus Butler is running for re-election to Longford County Council in the Local Government Elections in May. Johnny Fallon spoke to him recently at the Backstage Theatre, as part of the Longford Local Interview Series .

Seamus is Managing Director of Butler Manufacturing Services, an internationally trading Industrial Services company, and is currently Chairman of the St Mel’s Cathedral Project Committee. Recently he completed his presidency of the Longford Chamber of Commerce and  has previously being a member of Longford County Council.

Johnny packed a lot into the interview with Seamus, with topics covered including his previous time in office, his narrow loss on re-election last time round, his community involvement, the budget process, Fianna Fail, Rural Post Offices, Rural Transport, his plans for an International School of Conservation Skills at Connolly Barracks and more.

It’s fair to say that Seamus stands very strongly on his business acumen, is someone who believes that there are not enough experienced business people involved in local politics in Longford, and that there is a lack of vision and leadership at present in Longford County Council.

We would like to thank Seamus Butler for his time and agreeing to be interviewed.

Watch the video, and let us know what you think.

“I believe,” he continued “that art in whatever form it comes, should be made accessible to everyone and that it should be brought back into the daily lives of everyone. One of the most lovely things about Ireland, particularly in the traditional music scene, is when you hear people talking about where the tunes come from – each time something is played it is not repeated but recreated all over again;  it is something new and wonderful. It is therefore very important.” President Higgins, Ardagh, March 2014

http://longfordlocal.com/5-reasons-longford-can-beat-dublin/
Many neutrals might look at this fixture and just assume through ignorance that #Dublin will beat #Longford.

After all, Dublin are the All-Ireland Champions and have a population of over a million people, whereas Longford are minnows of county football with the same population as Lucan.
