The past 7 years I've learnt a lot about online marketing, dialing in specifically on "SEO" (Search engine optimization: Or, ranking websites in Google for specific key words / phrases)

It has been a great experience and I was lucky enough to become quite skilled at it and really understand how it works. Fortunately I was also able to build a great business out of it.

The current company which has been my biggest year http://SearchBoost.ca (and a lot of other sites that I'm also working on under SB)  has been a lot of fun. My clients are great and I have loved it a lot, but I feel like I'm becoming a bit limited by how difficult google likes to make it to keep doing SEO, so I've decided to shift my goals for 2015 a little bit.

Later this year I plan on selling my business, I'll probably sell all of the business involving SEO so that I can fund www.OnSchedule.ca & some new case study projects that are better suited for social media based marketing

Why am I doing this?

SEO is great, but there's a limit unless you're a master of selling. I have a sustainable, profitable company with great customers and a good team of people that are working on it; That said, while I keep focusing on my SEO business and growing that, (albeit quite well) I feel like my learning curve is slowing down.

Back when I used to operate pretty small (Only myself, handful of customers) a few years back, when I was working on my first SEO company that I started with originally - it was fun because I was able to still read all the time, and I loved that. Reading and starting to implement new things, and learning is a lot of fun. Running a pretty moderate sized company like Searchboost I'm limited to the politics of having a team involved, some other stakeholders than myself and a pretty decent sized client base with contracts that I can't really openly test stuff without getting some backlash if they don't turn out as expected. Truthfully, the time isn't even spent "running the business", it's spent on making very arbitrary projections, marketing meetings and stuff that only 5-10% of actually ends up going into play.

Every week there are new meetings talking about all the stuff that we plan on doing that week, month, quarter - and 1/10 things actually make it to where we want, sales especially for some reason we just struggle with. We don't properly follow up on leads, don't return calls, and stupid mistakes that I felt I managed a lot better before, and I feel that a big part of these mistakes is me wanting to start learning new things and diversifying my range of knowledge into other areas like eCommerce, social media marketing and more untapped networks

Instagram.com/ just started running ad campaigns with some big brands, but presumably will start offering ads like Facebook with some presumably amazing targeting sometime next year. This will create a huge opportunity and I don't want to miss it. Facebook has really been the major player in the past several years, their growth in online advertising has been amazing and I can't wait to see what they do with Instagram.

IG will probably be the go-to for social media in the next 7 years and I want to be one of the influencers when that happens.

I digress. Think about where you want to be, what makes you happy. I'm making a change in 2015 that should be pretty drastic. What are your goals in 2015?

Bewdly Coffee co, some really cool funky coffee products that I'm excited to hopefully take to the next level in 2015. It will make for the first "Social media based" Case study as well as some other good info' for buysellads.com ads that I'll be running

Should be a really interested project so make sure to keep an eye (When I finally release my new blog)
