"PataNoir" is a surreal noir game, which differs from an ordinary noir story in ways that should become clear early on.

A smile lights up his face. "I am very glad to hear that, Mr. Reilly. You sound just like the person we need. Unfortunately, I can't just take your word for it, you understand. I just need some kind of assurance."

"Mr. Jameson, how can I convince you that I am the right man for the job?"
He thinks for a few seconds. "I am not certain. You seem like a pretty decent person, but perhaps I should investigate some other options before I decide."

He is still too cold. You can't reach him. If only there was a way to make him a warmer person.

He laughs heartily. "Please, call me Allan. It's really been a pleasure talking to you, Douglas. I am so glad I decided to visit you, instead of going with one of the other people. They were all so glum and cynical."
