Thoughts on watching Life of Pi:

1. Life of Pi is a extended demonstration of the wondrous value of lying to yourself about the awful things you do to survive and how other people will abet even murder if they're told a good story, and how this is all a metaphor for religion. Or something.
2. if you don't pay attention to the beginning, it's a sad tale of Mowgli trying to commit "suicide by Shere Khan" - and being condemned to live in a godless Western country.
3. if you pay attention to the beginning, it's a heartwarming tale of interspecies openmindedness & tolerance, with a romance between Mowgli and the tsundere Shere Khan climaxing in the storm, after which they inevitably coast to a breakup.
4. the cook is played by Pierre Depardieu, who steals the scene when he discusses the folly of French taxation policy, the multi-million-franc worth of his schnoz, and ponders the merits and demerits of accepting Russian citizenship
