Scientists Officially Classify New Human Organ

Medical science has been carefully studying the human body for centuries. One of its earliest areas of interest was the classification of our hierarchical system of organs.

So you might be forgiven for thinking we at least knew all the organs of the body, and could safely move on to the human genome and other areas less well-known. But you'd be wrong.

Through the recent efforts of a team of researchers, medical science has officially recognized a new human organ: the mesentery.

"So what is the mesentery? It's a double fold of peritoneum - the lining of the abdominal cavity - that attaches our intestine to the wall of our abdomen, and keeps everything locked in place."

We have, in fact, known about this structure for centuries, but had previously believed it was fragmented, made up of separate sections, unlike organs, which are continuous structures. In fact, as it turns out, the mesentery is also continuous, according to microscopic analyses.

This reclassification will lead to a renewed interest in understanding this structure, and especially its role in abdominal and digestive health.

Researchers have classified a brand-new organ inside our bodies, one that's been hiding in plain sight in our digestive system this whole time.

As it should be

Iceland is the only nation that put top finance executives behind bars after the 2008 crisis.
After the Global Financial Crisis, no U.S. bank was indicted or found guilty of any criminal charges.

Excellent

It's amazing and sad he had to go all the way to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. At least he won.
D.C. police had broken into the home of an Iraq War veteran without justification.

Shameful

Turns out the Justice Department is capable of accurately reporting on police use of force, it just never tried before.
