Debating privacy in a networked world

+danah boyd: "The reason that we must care about privacy, especially in a democracy, is that it’s about human agency. To systematically undermine people’s privacy – or allow others to do so – is to deprive people of freedom and liberty."

Here's the debate she is participating in over at the Wall Street Journal:

This one goes up to 11.

Awesome.

Between Mobile Me, iCloud, an iPhone, an iPad and a Macbook Pro, I can now confidently say this: I have no earthly idea where my contacts actually live. All of this to say, if you contact me in the next couple of days and I ask you, "who are you and how do I know you?" you'll know that my attempt to fix this situation has gone very badly. Been nice knowing all of you.

Ahhh unfollowing Robert Scoble is like the wind beneath my wings.

Hey small biz owners - we need your help!

My team at frog Design is looking for owners of small-to-medium sized businesses who would be willing to sit and talk for about an hour next week. We're working on a project that aims to make marketing campaigns better for SMB folk, and we'd like to get your thoughts about what does and doesn't work well in your world.

We'll make it worth your while (that's right, compensation. With actual money.) Drop me a note here if you're interested.
Thanks!

It's National Book Week. The rules: Grab the closest book to you. Go to page 56. Copy the 5th sentence as your status. Don't mention the book. Post these rules as part of your status.

"A fancy interactive lamp needs to be dimmable."

You heard it here first, folks.
