Americans who have been harmed by government action have the right to go to court to seek redress. But can the court then decide the case under a standard that means the government always wins? That standard is called the "rational basis test." The story below is about a little known upcoming Supreme Court case that illustrates how government, when left with unchecked authority, will abuse individual rights on even the most local matters.

State legislators in Minn. say they've found a way to create thousands of jobs. And no, they aren't talking about a "stimulus" package. They want to loosen restrictions on state licensing requirements. Hopefully other states will do the same!

That would be so awesome. So obvious and not only low cost, but negative cost, because you could shut down the licensing operations too. Let America try to fix itself, how hard is that to agree to?

Story

"Merry band of libertarian litigators"
Introduction
Founded in 1991, the Institute for Justice is what a civil liberties law firm should be. As our nation's only libertarian public interest law firm, IJ pursues cutting-edge litigation in the courts of law and in the court of public opinion on behalf of individuals whose most basic rights are denied by the government—like the right to earn an honest living, private property rights, and the right to free speech, especially in the areas of commercial and Internet speech.
