Introduction

I'm a frontend engineer in Frankfurt working mostly for large corporate clients. I've done this since 1996. My strengths are in frontend technologies like HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, with or without frameworks such as jQuery or YUI, and concepts like progressive enhancement, graded browser support, or exceptional performance. Work included development for desktop clients or mobile devices including tablets, and testing with screen readers. My preferred server-side scripting is PHP, and I've written a fairly decent WordPress plugin that involved the RESTful Amazon API, AJAX, and XSLT.

Otherwise I'm interested in Web accessibility since WCAG 1.0 (1999), I organized an international, interdisciplinary conference on that topic in Frankfurt in 2009, and I often speak at conferences and unconferences about accessibility, HTML5, and anything related. I did several accessibility BITV reviews, also in cooperation with DIAS in Hamburg. Sometimes I write on my own blog, but I blame twitter for not writing more often there.

I'm an Invited Expert at the W3C HTML Working Group, the W3C HTML Accessibility Task Force, the W3C eGovernment Interest Group, a member of the Web Standards Project, the German Webkrauts, and other bodies. I also lectured as an assistant professor on web technologies and accessibility at the University of Mainz in the winter of 2010.

In March 2011 I was elected to the City Council of Frankfurt for the Pirate Party where we formed the ELF Piraten fraction. That's another place where we fight for equal rights, transparency, and participation.
