Didn't Darth Vader slaughter a bunch of innocent children once?  Guess he has mellowed out in his old age.

Ok, I've got one extra Amazon Kindle FIRE left, and its too late to return it. So I'm giving it away!

How to win the brand new, unopened Amazon Kindle FIRE in only two steps:
Step 1) Do you have me in one of your circles? Great. Check that one off the list...
Step 2) Publicly SHARE this post.

That's it! You're entered to win, and I'll ship it to you ANYWHERE.

Wait, you want more chances to win? Ok, I'll tell you what:
- One extra entry if you leave a comment telling me WHY you want it.
- One extra entry if you Subscribe to our Livid Lobster newsletter!

You'll find the newsletter subscription form here: http://lividlobster.com/

I'll announce the winner on Geek Beat LIVE on Friday Jan 6 (basically in a week), and then here on Google+. Good luck to all!

PS - Damn, I love to give stuff away. Wait till you see what I'm planning in the new year... ;-)

I need a little advice for the new year and since Google+ is still mostly for people that are technology focused I felt this was a good place to ask. I want to spend time in 2012 working on my technical skills. I have been a general purpose technical guy for most of my career doing everything from networking, SQL admin, network wiring, desktop support, server and hardware support, telecommunications support and management, and generally being the IT manager for a small company. I earned an MCSE back on NT but never upgraded even though I am working on the current version of Microsoft server products today. These days I am more of a technology manager than being in the trenches getting stuff done but it is my job to see that everything works.

With that said, I want to work on something new this coming year and I don't know what to do. I could update my MCSE, work on Cisco certifications, start seriously learning to program in one language or another, etc. I don't know what direction to point so I am looking for ideas. If you had to tell someone ONE skill to learn, what would it be? Keep in mind this isn't necessarily something that would lead to a new career, I just want a forward looking, marketable technology skill that I can work on to keep my mind sharp as well as just be a better all around technology professional

Thanks in advance!

Check this out from Louis CK.

https://buy.louisck.net/statement

If you haven't seen what he is doing it is really cool. He produced a video of completely new material and is selling it direct to his fans for $5.00. I really love how we are getting to the point where creatives can go directly to their audience. It seems to be working. Sure there will be some people who will want to steal it but the real message is that if you make something easy to acquire and relatively inexpensive people will buy it. $5.00 is nothing. You can't get lunch for $5.00. I'll be kicking in my 5 bucks this weekend.

Plus, Louis CK is funny as hell. Check it out!

This is for all of my old scouting brothers from Troop 20. I took this photo which shows all of the Eagle Scouts from our troop. I find it interesting that the majority of Eagles came out of my "era" of scouting. I wonder if there is something culturally significant about that or if we just had a good group of kids and leaders at that time.

I have to say that I really enjoy the ease in which WordPress updates. When I was using Movable Type upgrading my simple blog was a huge ordeal. I hope to have more time in 2012 to work on the site. Right now the focus is on posting more often but WordPress has certainly made it more enjoyable.

The elf got some friends together last night for a movie party. Why do they always have to make such a mess?

Looking at getting a Kindle or a Nook for a present for someone, is the Kindle the way to go here? It would pretty much solely be for reading.
