Yes, I do donate my food that is close to its' 'Best If Used By' date if I can't use it myself in a reasonable amount of time. That's the prime reason for trying to find much more shelf stable foods to add to my pantry.

I bought seeds harvested in Mexico of one of the original tomatoes. It was a grape sized tomato that when the birds ate them and dropped the seeds. I had plants growing in the lawn, flower beds and anywhere else they pooped! We had tomatoes until the frost killed the plant in November!
