On my blog, and elsewhere on the Internet, I talk about my religion. This blog post is a thumbnail sketch of the community I belong to.

My denomination is a very small community. It's found worldwide, but all together we have about 60,000 members total. We call ourselves "Christadelphians," and we believe that we've managed to recreate the first-century Christian community...

I truly never thought of that.
Interesting conclusion by Cormac Herley, in this paper: "Why Do Nigerian Scammers Say They are From Nigeria?" Abstract: False positives cause many promising detection technologies to be unworkable in practice. Attackers, we show, face this problem too. In deciding who to attack true positives are targets successfully attacked, while false positives are those that are attacked but yield nothing. This...

Wow. I usually like this guy's posts anyway, but he really, really nails this one.

Len - I think this article is spot on. I've unfortunately been on both sides of this - I've been weeded, and I've tried to do the weeding. Let them grow together, and let the Lord of the Harvest do the sorting at the end of the season.

Well, ya gotta admit, Debbie Harry looks pretty good for a punk rocker old enough to draw Social Security.

Despite the heavy-handed psychobabble, I think there's a good point lurking in this article.

I've heard them called that before, but never so eloquently.
"No," writes Elizabeth Cameron, "they are the Nazgul: the nine Kings of Men who succumbed to the power of Sauron, and whose black robes give them visible form."

Love it. I actually wear the "barefoot trail gloves," which look like normal sneakers unless you look close. Highly recommend them.

Followup: the podiatrist thinks the "barefoot" shoes are partly to blame for my plantar fasciitis. A coworker credits hers with putting a stop to her getting it, so YMMV. The podiatrist comments that they're a pretty good idea, but "they're not for everyone."

It's political cover. Obama is marching steadily to war, arm in arm with Bibi. Occasionally one pretends to criticize the other as too hawkish or too dovish, purely to give each other the political cover they need to continue building up to the war they've already decided to wage.
Netanyahu shares closer perspective with Romney, who said Obama had ‘thrown Israel under the bus’

My desire for a 3D printer grows and grows and grows.
If you repair your own appliances you know that success or failure can often hinge on whether or not you can find small plastic or metal parts that may no longer be produced.

I confess to mixed feelings. If this were a purely voluntary arrangement, whereby a crematorium sold its waste heat to someone who could use it, I think the same libertarians who are expressing outrage would instead be praising it.

Of course all sorts of moral issues arise when one of the parties has the power to enforce its wishes on the other, so I fully appreciate the sinister feel that goes with government doing what appears on the surface to be exactly the same thing.

I also suspect exaggeration here. The heat being used here is generated by gas jets, not by burning corpses. I tend to doubt that burning a corpse is on balance exothermic in the first place. If it were, Nero wouldn't have had to dip Christians in pitch before lighting them.
Writes Travis Holte: The plan to use burning corpses to heat a public pool goes forward. It is estimated to save the slaves £14.5K (not that they're likely to get a tax break) per annum or roughly 0.001% the cost of one of the many bombs being used to create more corpses in Afghanistan every day. The government wants the scheme to spread throughout Britain.

An excellent and detailed report.
I saw mention of Lt Col Davis a few weeks ago, Rawstory has a new article, and Rolling Stone has the entire pdf file of Davis's report on lying in Afghanistan. He and Rudyard Kipling are of the sa...
