DON'T MISS! THIS AFTERNOON!

Today we are hosting a Free Webinar: Are You Paying For Non-Active Links With BGP?

So, you've already gone and set up BGP because you know the benefits of BGP are important for your environment… you have multiple ISPs… but you do you realize that with BGP's best path algorithm you are paying for a "dead link"?

By multihoming with BGP at any given time all but one of your active ISP links will be sitting idle. You're paying for multiple uplinks so that you can disperse your traffic but in reality you're paying for a backup circuit since only one circuit can be used at any given moment and it's not possible to disperse your traffic with BGP.

With BGP, there is no guarantee that the "weaker" of your two links will be the "dead link." It's possible that BGP will continually choose that weaker link.

Free Webinar: How Can BGP Users Protect Themselves From DDoS Attacks? (ONLY ONE DAY LEFT TO REGISTER!)

You've already set up BGP and you understand the benefits of BGP for your environment but do you know how to protect yourself from DDoS attacks while utilizing BGP?

Hackers flood and overload end users with false requests so that when legitimate requests come in, the end user is flooded and appears offline.

By implementing BGP multihoming you are announcing your routes at your location and the traffic has to flow through your multiple ISPs' direct purchased links. However, if your links are flooded from DDoS, the ISPs may have to shut down your connections to protect their own infrastructure.

Even if just one of your 256 (or more) hosts are being attacked, it could make the rest of your hosts appear to be offline.

A BGP provider may provide Customer Triggered Remote Black Hole Filtering (RTBF) but by then the traffic will have already gotten to the last mile traffic ISP. In order for this to be effective, all of your ISPs receiving your BGP announcements must provide this kind of service.

Free Webinar: Can You Apply Policy To Individual Hosts With BGP?

So you've already set up BGP and you know the benefits of BGP are important for your environment...but are you frustrated with the fact that with BGP you cannot apply policy to individual hosts?

Because of agreements between ISPs, the use of BGP on the Internet requires you to direct traffic to groups of 256 hosts (/24) at a time. Business requirements for high throughput VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) or storage replication have traffic requirements that can't be met with BGP.

You want your majority of traffic to take one path and special hosts to take another which can't be done using BGP.
