We are here twice on our 7 day stay in Kapaa. Loved the sushi and the steak. Steak was so tender and cooked perfectly. Bartender was so friendly and the waiters were also. Make a reservation because you will have to wait awhile.... Super busy.

The fish was not fresh at all. The service was subpar. They did not offer "children" chopsticks and instead gave us a rubber band. Yiu would think that this place would be better given the fact it's open four hours a day. Maybe the horrible service and food is the reason - no one would show up otherwise. Please go else where!

First I went to Kintaro restaurant in 1984. This was the second time in thirty years in March 2015, restaurant expanded and Mr. Kim the founder of Kintaro passed away and I heard his son owns the place. Family is run by members of the family. Sashimi was impressive, large portion and price was modest. Our waitress was Alex, delightful and also member of Kim's family. Wish them the best. I recommend this restaurant very highly. The best thing I can say about this place is that at least we didn't get sick. I was actually kind of worried after tasting some of the fish and seeing the kitchen at the end of the meal. I really wanted to like it because I had heard great things and it was our first meal in Kauai, but the service was very preferential to locals and I didn't feel like we were treated particularly well, and the fish was considerably worse than what you'd get from Whole Foods: lots of it was pasty and lots of it had a strong fishy smell. The miso soup was fine, but even the tempura had sort of an off flavor. Maybe the problem was that we went on a Tuesday night, kind of late?

Food wax just ok. Miso siup was way too salty and the tempura was soft and not crunchy. Good portions and service though.

During our vacations to Kauai, we visit Kintaro often. The food is reasonably priced and always exceeds expectations. The staff at this place is truly amazing. All the people working seem happy to be there, and very happy to see us. Many smiles at Kintaro. True Aloha from the fantastic sushi chefs, the teppan yaki chefs, and the truly great waitstaff. We will be back on our next visit. Jim and Ida Duhig Napa, California

Sushi was fresh and melted in your mouth. There was a ton of rice on the rolls and they are cut super thick! Ive had better and more creative rolls in California and Arizona. The spicy tuna was the best because it does not have mayo in it. The variety of cut rolls in pretty small. Ordered 6 rolls for about $56.
