First I went to Kintaro restaurant in 1984. This was the second time in thirty years in March 2015, restaurant expanded and Mr. Kim the founder of Kintaro passed away and I heard his son owns the place. Family is run by members of the family. Sashimi was impressive, large portion and price was modest. Our waitress was Alex, delightful and also member of Kim's family. Wish them the best. I recommend this restaurant very highly. The best thing I can say about this place is that at least we didn't get sick. I was actually kind of worried after tasting some of the fish and seeing the kitchen at the end of the meal. I really wanted to like it because I had heard great things and it was our first meal in Kauai, but the service was very preferential to locals and I didn't feel like we were treated particularly well, and the fish was considerably worse than what you'd get from Whole Foods: lots of it was pasty and lots of it had a strong fishy smell. The miso soup was fine, but even the tempura had sort of an off flavor. Maybe the problem was that we went on a Tuesday night, kind of late?

Sushi was fresh and melted in your mouth. There was a ton of rice on the rolls and they are cut super thick! Ive had better and more creative rolls in California and Arizona. The spicy tuna was the best because it does not have mayo in it. The variety of cut rolls in pretty small. Ordered 6 rolls for about $56.

The rolls were average. We waited 75 minutes for our food. Tempura was not crispy. The scallops were cooked correctly, but had no flavor. The fish of the day was cooked very well. Staff was very nice. Overall, average food, priced premium. Will not be going back.

Garbage. Sushi should never be represented this way. Anybody who thinks this sushi is even close to decent has no idea what they're talking about.

The locals sitting around us got great food and "extras" with their meal. When we asked about why the tables surrounding us were getting complimentary items when seated and we did not - we were told that it was not offered to tourists. A little ofputting from the beginning.

Really good sushi. I love scallops and usually get a roll but I ordered a scallop hand roll for the first time and it was awesome.
