As a chef and writer, I concentrate on culinary tourism but within the context of the larger culture. A writer has an advantage that time provides to absorb a destination from the top down. Naturally a first time visitor wants to see the major sights, but only if time allows do their eyes gaze down to street level. I enjoy exploring the destination at street level, and as a writer I can capture that scene, the real culture, with words and photos.
I am particularly interested in international travel to destinations and cultures not yet visited by the average North American tourist such as Southeast Asia, southern Africa and South America. Yet I am equally interested in discovering what's in my own back yard in the mid-Atlantic states.
