A follow-up on my stroke and my first visit to a doctors office (voluntarily) in a few years and the commitment to make sure I don't put family and friends (and me) through that again.
It has been five weeks since I was released from Alta Bates after my little stroke - little in size, not consequences. It has been a quick, uneventful five weeks; I was back on my bike a few days after getting back home and a...

Not really, fortunately. I was planning on writing a follow-up on the blog tomorrow (4 weeks!). I do have a heavy-duty blood-thinner to take (Xarelto) and become obsessive about calories in and out (using a pretty good app call MyFitnessPal to do the tracking).

This mornings walk - around Aquatic Park. Turned out longer than I expected, but it was a good day for it.

For all you nerds, geeks, engineers and scientists of a certain age (and apparently that certain age is still rather young), Fortran is still king, though its not your CDC6400 Fortran any more (my first experience with F7 was on a newly installed CDC6400 in the basement of Evans Hall at Berkeley). I wonder if there is a F2008 compiler for my Android device - I know there is for my Mac... Between this article and the one on Sony's 185TB tape, I'm not feeling so old this week :-)
Cutting-edge research still universally involves Fortran; a trio of challengers wants in.

Our short apple tree is starting to blossom - the branches are so low that the buds look like they are coming from the ground clover. Good sign for Summer pies...

This morning's walk from Aquatic Park to the end of Berkeley Pier - love the winds and smell of the Bay.

Helping diversifying tech means helping get tagging where it isn't. Help Hack the Hood get Google funding to help our industry - and the kids.

Good to be back in the office after the "excitement" of last week. Meds now officially increased...

I forget, did I send you the link to the blog entry or did you get it from FB? Longer piece than on FB - trying not to be too obsessive but still fresh :-) - http://tfpkiii.killilea.org/2014/05/mothers-day-wake-up-message.html

I always forget how interesting Oakland architecture can be. Not having been destroyed in 1906 and experienced some restoration in the past decades, Oakland has a lot of remarkable buildings like these in the "Old Oakland" neighborhood at 8th and Broadway - just down the street from Swans Market.
