Are you committing one of the biggest mistakes I see with brands attempting to grow corporate blogs?

At least once a week I get approached about helping a brand find writers to help grow the traffic, reach and authority of their blog.

And in not one of those instances does the person on the end of the line or email or LinkedIn messenger inquire about the expertise of these would-be writers.

It's as though any good writer will do; they won't.

If you care to create a worthwhile blog, you should also care that the people creating the content have expertise (or works with someone who does) in your vertical.

You've likely been told that long-form is the way to go when it comes to web copy that garners mentions, shares and links; you've been told wrong.

If your brand struggles with content marketing, it's time to step up to the challenge, realizing there are no bad plans, only bad plans for the intended outcome.

Toughest part of attempting to lose weight is putting in the work but not seeing the results: movement on the scale, for example.

New research supports the “Don’t exercise for weight loss” rationale.

Most of the questions I get regarding content marketing are of the how-to variety. However, most of what brands struggle with have to do with how they should think.

This is one of my favorite posts to share for getting people to think before they act in content marketing.
Reach and Influence: Your First Marketing Priorities

When you first start out with content marketing, you often have a very basic challenge: you have to build an audience for your content. Even if you're a large brand with lots of people who are passionate about you, they're not yet conditioned to see you as a publisher of valuable content. In other words, either way, you've got work to do.

Here's how to get started!

Our kids' health is too important to trust to the profit-driven motives of most big brands.
It's difficult to overstate just how aggressively the American Youth Soccer Organization allows Nesquik to push chocolate milk on their young players, and if AYSO honestly cared about their young players' health and nutrition, they'd put a quick end to this nutritionally indefensible partnership.

Most cancers related to obesity.

4 out of every 10 cancers diagnosed each year can be linked to being overweight or obese. And that’s a problem, considering that 71 percent of all American adults can be considered overweight or obese, according to the CDC.

Further corroboration that fire ants are one of the hardiest creatures on the planet.
Solenopsis invicta

See all the hairs on this fire ant? They insure you pretty much can't drown this ant - it will trap air bubbles in those hairs and use it to float. As an extension to the individual effect, they multiply the effect and create a living raft to save any nest that's in danger of being drowned - something those in Houston are becoming all too familiar with.

Health Canada is considering implementing a front-of-package stoplight warning system designed to alert consumers that the product might not a healthy choice. Could this system be used to help remove ridiculous front-of-pack health claims?
