Great fun for dogs and peeps. Good on Long Beach for having the only off-leash dog Park in LA County. Bad on LA...

This is the home of one of the best vets around - Dr. Richard Palmquist. It is worth the wait to see the staff here - Dr Palmquist has a special way with animals and a holistic approach to medicine and we would not think of taking our cats and dog to any other vet in Los Angeles. While reading a book by Cesar Milan, he mentioned taking his dogs to Dr Palmquist -- Mr. Milan has since moved away from this neighborhood and goes to other celebrity vets, but that leaves more of Dr Palmquist's time for the community! The place can be very busy, and I imagine that it could be organized a bit more efficiently, but the staff is always extremely helpful and diligent and they don't over-prescribe medicine like other vets in town. I have a friend who's dog got cancer treatment here, and the work of CAH absolutely extended her life. And we have a 21 year old cat that receives her care from the folks at Centinela Animal Hospital and she is doing very well for her age.

I highly recommend Magdalena Bay Whales. We had an amazing experience to be up-close to the majestic grey whales. We took a private all-day tour with the guide Marcos (The Whale Whisperer). He got us extremely close to a grey whale calf and her mother and easily found many large pods of dolphins. Even though we were late in the season (March) we saw at least a dozen grey whales in our day on the boat. We had a few shore stops along the way including an amazing seafood lunch at a small fishing village and visited some beautiful sand dunes. Magdalena Bay Whales even coordinated our inexpensive accommodations for the night (there are not too many places to stay in Puerto San Carlos).
