Came here for a quick breakfast before my meeting. Wouldn't seat us until our third party arrived. I could understand if the restaurant was crowded, but there was only a few tables going. I had some eggs and potatoes. The eggs were decent but the potatoes were dry and bland. A friend had the breakfast burrito and said it was good. Waitress wasn't very attentive.

Yum!! After seeing Nickel Diner on Diners. Drive-Ins and Dives AGES ago, it's always been on my list to try, I just never got around to trying it until now! We came on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm and there was still a 10-15 minute wait, which was fine with us. FOOD: - duck & cluck - mashed potatoes, sauteed greens, duck & bacon sausage and two DEEP FRIED poached eggs!! Those eggs were DELICIOUS and really made me wonder how they made them. Very filling and the owner said it was the best thing on their menu (but I'm sure she says that about everything :P) - 5th & main - spicy bbq pork hash with two poached eggs on top. A TON of pork! Super delicious, not that spicy at all and perfectly poached eggs. Again, very filling. - homemade apple pop tart - they were sold out of donuts, and the pop tart was recommended to us by the owner and damn, I'm glad we listened. The filling was super good, not full of that syrupy goo that can be found in apple pies. We ate it with their homemade strawberry jam - double yum! SERVICE: Friendly and quick! A good number of staff on hand, our food came out pretty darn quickly. It was nice to speak with the owner and see that she's around the diner :) VENUE/PARKING: Smallish, with booths, tables, and share-able high tops. We declined to sit at the high top tables and we snagged a nice cozy corner booth! Bathrooms are single stall per gender and clean. Parking was a bit more of a problem, we couldn't find any free meters, so we just parked in one of the lots nearby. Would definitely come back! Just not at peak times :)

Great food here! We were seated immediately, brought drinks and ordered within 10 minutes. The menu is LA comfort food, from homemade grilled cheese and homemade tomato soup, the chilaquiles. We took a donut to go~the strawberry....yummm! Will be going back soon!

Was in the area.. At the fashion district. Decided to stop.. Over rated and pricey for what you get. Service was so so.. Food was OK. Not sure what the hype is about. I had the huevos rancheros.. Not nummy... I will stick to my usual haunts near echo park.. Tacos anyone?

This place is a great spot to start the day. There is a long line, so come early or call ahead to put your name on the list to shave off some minutes because the diner isn't very big. The plate sizes are hearty and not overpriced. The nickel bag is amazing and if you're eating breakfast, highly recommend as a side starch. Service is fast, and everything looks good when you look around. Parking nearby this area is weird as there are multiple lots on the same block, some of the parking lots have different pricings for the same parking lots, they just charge you depending on the entrance that you come in through?!

High quality simple american food. Lovely service as well. If you're staying downtown this is the place to have breakfast.

Came with my husband here for his 30th birthday dinner with high expectations, however, left extremely disappointed with the service at Nickel Diner was a bit terrifying. Perhaps, it was the nasty attitude our waitress had. This was my last visit to this place!!

You've probably seen this place on a Food Network special. They do a fantastic brunch on the weekends, but be prepared to wait even though there are community tables, it's generally pretty crowded. Try the Maple Bacon Donut or the homemade poptarts, but everything is delicious. Also, if you note the wall decor with the painted menus... those are actually from the beginning of the 20th century. They were uncovered when the Nickel Diner was being built, and they touched them up to add to the vintage feel of the restaurant.
