Lets hope that Obama follows more of the recommendations of the committee. The current cloud over US software publishers and online services is hurting them fiscally.
The White House said that information about major Internet security flaws should be shared with computer and software manufacturers so they can be fixed. But it left broad exceptions for cases that involve national security.

A wonderful graphic to depict the migration between regions. How to do it in R is shown on an author's blog (http://gjabel.wordpress.com/2014/03/28/circular-migration-flow-plots-in-r/) and the methodology described in a paper in Science (http://www.sciencemag.org/content/343/6178/1520). I love the way in which a non-standard graph presents information which is quickly grasped.

An important editorial about how copyright laws are infringing on the things we buy, not just the music and movies we have. The way the current laws are, it is leading to really silly findings. Copyright needs updating to today's world.

This is an amazing set of cartoons that characterize why I fell in love with New Yorker cartoons.

SAS/IML gives a very powerful, matrix oriented programming language which reinforces the mathematics behind statistics and allows the rapid implementation of new techniques - perfect for the academic enfironment.

He was truly a remarkable leader of WUWM

We mourn the passing late last night of Dr. David M. Kipnis, a mentor and champion of generations of physician-scientists who passed through Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. After a silent fund-raising campaign, an endowed chair in his name was announced several months ago and will be a small part of his legacy. Obituaries are forthcoming. http://endo.wustl.edu/david-m-kipnis-m-d/

This one of the most rational discussions about the 23andme flap with the FDA. Will have to wait and see what happens, but I agree with the author that they took the actions they did to confront the FDA and shake up the market.

I am a regular, stopping for coffee most mornings just before I grab the Metro to go to work. Stop by at other odd times since I live nearby. While there was a temporary problem with the internet that has been fixed for months - only issue is you need the password which is freely available. Also contrary to some other reviews they are open late each night. Best feature as far as I am concerned is the monthly "single blend" expresso coffee special. While it costs more, it is almost always great and gives some variety if you regularly are there.
