Ok... here's the finished crafts! Most of you know how important Grandma Ruby (this was Brandon's Grandma) was to Brandon and I (as well as the rest of our Spry bunch) and I helped take care of her until she passed away. Grandma Ruby always wore housecoats and very seldom did you see her without one on when she was at home. After she passed away (September 11, 2009) I had a pillow made for each of her 4 boys from 4 different housecoats she wore the most. I have kept the scrap material thinking I would make something out of it eventually but didn't know when.
I love making/giving meaningful gifts. You know, ones that you can't really buy from a store and something that is unique yet full of memories. On our most recent trip to Las Vegas we were looking in one of the Cirque stores and saw a great idea (sorry Pintrest... you can't take credit for this hair brain idea). I cut up the material from 5 housecoats (sorry forgot to tell you I had one made for me) and put the scraps in glass ornament balls. Each ball has 2 buttons from the housecoats and I am going to hang a red "R" from each one. These will be given to the 4 boys to remember their mom. My hope is that each year as their families put their Christmas trees up together they will have some good memories from a very special woman that meant so much to us and share the stories with their grandchildren. Christmas for me is about creating memories that last a lifetime and when that lifetime is over we remember those special memories by doing something like this.
I really wish I had something from my Granny Crews to do an ornament with and I know I can probably find things to create one. Guess all my good ideas often times comes too late (she died when I was 19 years old) so I am sharing this with you to create some of those memories now.... What an inexpensive way to remember a special day.... Now you are welcome for the inspiration!
Oh one last thing... If you know any of the Spry boys (Tilford, Lonnie, Karl and/or Terry) and any of their kids... This is a "SPRY-ize" so please keep it between us... K? #homemadegiftidea #Christmas #family
