Newroz is an event celebrated by many different ethnic and religious groups across the world. It is a tradition and celebration which dates back almost 3000 years. Commonly Newroz marks the coming of spring and the start of a new year. For the Kurdish people Newroz is a symbolic event which also symbolises the revolution and struggle of the Kurdish people.

Newroz in Kurdistan has traditionally been celebrated under great oppression and brutality. The fire of Newroz symbolizes the resistance and struggle of the Kurds against successive tyrant and dictatorial regimes. It symbolizes the burning of the dark times and provides light for the year ahead. It symbolizes peace and freedom.

The Adelaide Kurdish Youth Society will be hosting their 5th annual NewrozFestival to be held on Saturday the 18th March 2017 starting at 4.00PM in Civic Park, Modbury.

The biggest aim of celebrating Newroz is to share the culture and traditions with the wider Australian community and use the event to promote harmony, multiculturalism and peace.
