Come on! I would bet that at some point in the past when a Democrat lead congress voted for defense cuts you could have pointed to soldier deaths due to equipment failure just proceeding it. But you never would have suggested those politicians were insensitive let alone stupid. This year the 4 major rail companies plan to spend $29B in capital improvements and hire 15,000 people. That's an increase over prior years while the number of active miles of rail continues to fall (as it has for decades). I want to avoid tragedies like this one but how about we move some of the TSA folks that make sure my laptop is out of my bag and put them on board trains to make sure engineers are not the single point of failure. No increase in taxes and solve two issues. Are Democrats willing to have a real discussion about solutions or does it always boil down to spending more?
