A second shipment of Olea sylvestris/ yamadori Olive bonsai from Spain arrived yesterday, and included this beast of a tree!
65cm in height, the tree has a 35cm trunkbase and features extensive natural deadwood, it's just asking to be styled! #bonsai #olea #olive #yamadori

This wonderful Azalea with tiny leaves came to me in April in a miserable state, having been sat in an organic peat soil mix for many years. With the help of Maarten Maarten who was working with me, we cleaned off the old soil and repotted the tree into a kanuma/pumice mix.
After a couple of months in the polytunnel, the tree has been back on the benches for a few weeks and is thriving, back-budding and throwing out a multitude of new shoots. Otherwise, the tree remains completely unstyled from when I received it.
Height 13"/33cm, trunkbase 4"/10cm

This gorgeous little Pinus nigra/Austrian Black Pine bonsai came into the garden yesterday along with a number of shohin-sized trees that I'll be adding to the Shop.
This morning I couldn't resist giving it a re-style and it is now just 3"/7.5cm in height!! (Ignoring the sacrifice growth intended to thicken the trunk).
The next owner will need to get it into something much smaller, and nicer, than its current cement pot! #bonsai #pine #mame #shohin #nigra #austrian

I think this is quite a rare occurrence, one of my Ligustrum ovalifolium/Privet bonsai not only flowering, but in scale with the tree itself!
Collected in 2009 from a hedge growing in West London, this has always been one of my favourite Privet.
Height 14"/34cm, 5"/12.5cm trunk diameter.
Pot by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery
A progression series for this tre, going back to 2009, can be seen on my website here: http://bonsai4me.com/AdvTech/AT%20Privet%20Bonsai%20ReStyling.html

It’s been a busy week wiring the new growth on the hawthorn bonsai in my garden, while it’s still supple but hardened off enough to carry wire.
Some of you may remember this strange-looking connected trunk Hawthorn, collected by Sean, that I carved and styled in early Spring. Plenty of new growth has meant I’ve been able to continue to implement a design on it before it heads off to its new life in Spain! #bonsai #hawthorn #yamadori

My new Quercus cerris/Turkey Oak purchased from a local club member who started it as an acorn 40 years ago.
The tree was very healthy but undeveloped as a bonsai. So three weeks ago when I got it back home, I removed it from its old container, removed as much of the compacted organic soil as I could without disturbing the roots, and planted it into a larger container with very fast draining soil (large grain pumice). At the same time, I pruned and then partially defoliated the tree leaving the terminal leaves on each shoot.
This has allowed me to wire the tree this week, just as the new shoots that replace each leaf I removed, begin to emerge.
Height 70cm/28" with a 16cm/6" wide base.
