This is how I occasionally manage to scrape my fingers doing bonsai.......
Great shot from Alex (who assisted me at the Dublin workshop) of me roughing-out a fat Privet using a bonsai-nibbler bit fitted to a Makita die-grinder on Saturday.

The full set of images of my Ligustrum / Privet bonsai landscape, originally collected in 2012.
Rather than try and create a multi-trunk tree, as I have done a number of times before with old Privet stumps, with this one I decided to create a landscape where the deadwood is the most prominent feature and the live parts are secondary.
Width 1/2 metre. Slab by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery.

A big fat Acer campestre/ Field Maple, that I have been working on over the past year, made a step forward today as I started carving it.
Originally collected by Sean Stolp, the 40cm diameter tree was sold to a client who then asked me to develop it.
Today's work amounted to around 4 out of the 10 hours that it will take to fully finish the deadwood.

Images of an old Yew I carved 2 years ago, (taken before it reached me, and after I had styled it).
Another example of what can be achieved with a Bonsai Nibbler fitted to a £35 Dremel machine.
Bonsai Nibbler bits are now available from Bonsai4me.com/shop

I have been recommending Bonsai Nibblers for a number of years as THE best carving tool for bonsai. Capable of removing large amounts of wood, very rapidly, with an ordinary Dremel multi-tool, these are the go-to bit when carving.
I am very pleased to announce today that Bonsai Nibblers are now available at the Bonsai4me.com/shop to order. Please visit for more details. Note that worldwide dispatch will be from a week Friday (10th February).

My beautiful new pot, from the very talented US bonsai potter Roy Minarai has reached me! So pleased with this. :) The hand-thrown 9" diameter nanban has been made for a yamadori Hawthorn of mine Roy spotted on Facebook last year, I can't wait to get tree and pot united this Spring!
