I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, it turned out to be just okay. The clam chowder isn't much of a chowder as it is an over-salty soup with 2 clams. The lamb salad was good though, and my dad ordered the appetizer for two to try a little bit of everything- which is enough of a meal for one person if you're not too hungry. The waiters come over and fold your napkins every time you leave your seat, which I thought was...amusing. Is this how royalty lives? lol. The free chocolate souffle with the check in offer was delicious- I would want to come back just for the desert, but nothing else.

Food was great, particularly the ribs. Overpriced for the portions it served. The service was mediocre. The maître d' was somewhat uninterested in our business.

The manager there was fantastic. Not only to us for our 6th wedding anniversary, but to everyone. She was everywhere at once, making sure everything was top notch for service and the food. The food was excellent and served quickly. I am sorry I can only give it 5 stars. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

I treated my mum to dinner here to congratulate her on her retirement (the reason why we went on our Oahu trip in the first place). I quickly and easily made a reservation through Yelp, which used OpenTable, the day of and we arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation time. They have a nice waiting room that they led us to and then we were seated after waiting only a couple of minutes. The bathrooms here are also nice and clean and the restaurant has a nice ambience overall, even if that does include dim lighting. We were quickly given large glasses of water, but I realised they were misleading because the glass was mostly just ice :P They also didn’t give us any straws, but I should have asked for one. We were started off with a complimentary chili edamame appetizer which my mum enjoyed; she said the seasoning was good. For our entrees, my mum got their BEACH WALK TRIO. There were two seafood choices that she was debating between and this option seemed like the best since it would give her three different fish dishes (including the two she wanted). The Beach Walk Trio comes with: 1. HIBACHI GRILLED ATLANTIC SALMON: Japanese Cucumber & Wakame Salad, Citrus Ponzu -- This was my mum’s second favourite of the three. The salmon was well cooked; she also liked the citrus ponzu sauce and thought it complimented the salmon well. 2. ROY’S MACADAMIA NUT CRUSTED MEKAJIKI: "Kona Cold" Lobster Sauce -- While my mum really liked this sauce, she did not like this fish. This was her least favourite fish as she found it to be too rich/greasy. 3. MISOYAKI BUTTERFISH: Sweet Ginger Wasabi Beurre Blanc -- So my mum liked this fish the best, but this sauce the least. She is not a fan of wasabi to begin with, so it’s understandable that she did not like the wasabi sauce. She ended up eating this fish with the other two sauces. (FYI she specifically asked for the sauces to come on the side.) Meanwhile, I got the SLOW BRAISED HONEY MUSTARD GRILLED BEEF SHORT RIBS: Nalo Herb Lyonnaise Potatoes, Lomi Tomatoes. It also came with slices of carrot and zucchini. I love short ribs and the ones here were quite good, but they were also REALLY salty. I ended up drinking all of my water and my mum’s because it was so salty; they really need to fix the saltiness of this dish. I will say that I really liked the potatoes though; they were more like scalloped potatoes than mashed. And for dessert we got their ROY’S MELTING HOT CHOCOLATE SOUFFLE with Raspberry Coulis and Ice Cream. And guess what? It was complimentary with our Yelp check-in offer! I love it when that happens :D The soufflé was delicious but also really rich. I would have definitely appreciated a glass of milk with this. The ice cream did help, thank goodness. Service was pretty great, with our server checking up on us regularly. And while we did enjoy our meal, we did not enjoy it enough to justify the price that we paid (even with the complimentary dessert). If I could give half stars I would give them 3.5, but since I can’t I’m rounding down to 3 stars. I’m glad I got to finally dine at a Roy’s and that it was in Hawaii, but I will probably not be making a second visit back to this chain of restaurants.

Restaurant is not the nicest we have been to, but the food was some of the beat food we have eaten ever. We have veayen at some of the most expensive restaurants, never had service from wait staff like this. Good job to the waitstaff and the chefs, had no problem tipping 30%.
