I yearn for the day I can do all my shopping at Rainbow, but it's expensive and they don't sell meat or fish so it won't be happening anytime soon. You do get what you pay for here, though, and that means quality. Some highlights are a massive and impressive selection of cheeses (and samples to boot), the best bulk spices this side of the bay bridge, dairy products galore, fermented things if you're into that, and bulk nuts, seeds, and beans of all kinds. This is a vegetarian's/vegan's paradise.

Great grocery store! Lots, of variety, great brands, organic & vegan options, and customer service. They DON'T sell meat here so be prepared to head over to SF Costco for that. Parking can be tricky as there's only one smallish parking lot and almost zero street parking in front. However, behind the store you can typically find parking. Bring your reusable bags!!!

My favorite thing about Rainbow is the bulk section. I take my own containers here, weigh them, and refill my spices or get just the right amount of whatever I need. They give a 5 cent credit for bringing your own container, too, but it just makes me happy to make less waste. Groceries here are all great quality and seem carefully vetted. It's all vegetarian. I love that the produce includes signs saying where it came from and, when possible, the name of the farm. Their homegood section is terrific. I've purchased many gifts for people from their selection. Usually competitively priced and they stock things I can't find elsewhere.

Great SF co-op offering local and organic grocery at reasonable prices. The staff is helpful and informative about the items they offer. No meat here, so buy your meat grocery elsewhere. Tea aficionados will appreciate the extensive bulk tea section. Bring your own container for the 5-cent container credit.

This is a wonderful gem in the city for food lovers and for health freaks!!! Amazing choices of teas, spices, organic produce. One of very few places where you can buy raw milk, raw butter which is so good!!! I took away 1 star because the place is too crowded with stuff.. It's hard to get around with your cart! The staff is not very friendly. You have to watch your receipt. I have had some crazy charges added on there quite a few times!

This place has great food but the people who work there are TERRIBLE!! This is the closest store to my house and has the best produce so I unwillingly continue to shop here. It would be a much more enjoyable experience if the workers didn't act like you were inconveniencing them the second you stepped foot in the store.

Rainbow Grocery is a great local store that's comparable to Whole Foods. They have great vegetarian and vegan products, and an extensive bulk foods section, which includes various olive oils. My friend couldn't find squash blossoms, and I suggested that she go to Rainbow. Low and behold, she found them! She was surprised she couldn't find them at other fancy stores. But I knew Rainbow would have them. I also like their kitchen section where they have some interesting gadgets and housewares. They also have various bath and body products to choose from. Check out their website for their demo calendar, a list of restaurants that shop there, discounts, and more info about the coop.

Love it. There is everything I need minus meats.... Bulk items are reasonable in price and high quality. The variety of food, spices, natural remedies is unbelievable and the space is very well organized. Rainbow carries a good variety of oils, olives and butters so don't forget to check them out. The staff is friendly and you really cannot beat the selection.
