This grocery store is amazing! It's easy to make fun of it but it really is a wonderful part of the community. The bulk section is legendary. And so much kimchi and miso!

I yearn for the day I can do all my shopping at Rainbow, but it's expensive and they don't sell meat or fish so it won't be happening anytime soon. You do get what you pay for here, though, and that means quality. Some highlights are a massive and impressive selection of cheeses (and samples to boot), the best bulk spices this side of the bay bridge, dairy products galore, fermented things if you're into that, and bulk nuts, seeds, and beans of all kinds. This is a vegetarian's/vegan's paradise.

Great SF co-op offering local and organic grocery at reasonable prices. The staff is helpful and informative about the items they offer. No meat here, so buy your meat grocery elsewhere. Tea aficionados will appreciate the extensive bulk tea section. Bring your own container for the 5-cent container credit.

This place has great food but the people who work there are TERRIBLE!! This is the closest store to my house and has the best produce so I unwillingly continue to shop here. It would be a much more enjoyable experience if the workers didn't act like you were inconveniencing them the second you stepped foot in the store.

Great selection of bulk items - especially herbs, spices and teas. Supplies for those looking to "go green". Wide selection of cheeses. No flesh is sold (meat, fish, chicken) and prices slightly higher on standard products. Watch out for the rude and oblivious customers who leave carts everywhere and stand in the way while they chat. Beware the guy with mustache at front desk who is selectively rude to certain customers.

This is a wonderful gem in the city for food lovers and for health freaks!!! Amazing choices of teas, spices, organic produce. One of very few places where you can buy raw milk, raw butter which is so good!!! I took away 1 star because the place is too crowded with stuff.. It's hard to get around with your cart! The staff is not very friendly. You have to watch your receipt. I have had some crazy charges added on there quite a few times!

Great grocery store! Lots, of variety, great brands, organic & vegan options, and customer service. They DON'T sell meat here so be prepared to head over to SF Costco for that. Parking can be tricky as there's only one smallish parking lot and almost zero street parking in front. However, behind the store you can typically find parking. Bring your reusable bags!!!

My favorite thing about Rainbow is the bulk section. I take my own containers here, weigh them, and refill my spices or get just the right amount of whatever I need. They give a 5 cent credit for bringing your own container, too, but it just makes me happy to make less waste. Groceries here are all great quality and seem carefully vetted. It's all vegetarian. I love that the produce includes signs saying where it came from and, when possible, the name of the farm. Their homegood section is terrific. I've purchased many gifts for people from their selection. Usually competitively priced and they stock things I can't find elsewhere.
