There's another dimension to the Web. In this dimension, every Entity is represented by a Data Object. The actual digital manifestation of a Data Object takes the form of an entity-attribute-value pictorial (technically: a directed graph) comprised of hyperlinks. Basically, think hyperlinks for fine grained data instead of coarse grained documents.
Anyway, as people start using this dimension (btw- Facebook is already there, and Google is heading in the same direction at warp speed) they'll realize that disclosures will only be a few clicks away. Basically, a single click will reveal a rich profile comprised of associations as part of a Web scale drill-down interaction pattern -- just as you do today with coarser grained document links.
Waiting for people to actually disclose their affiliations still leaves the power out of your own hands etc..
Things are changing!
