Google+ has never gotten the respect its creator hoped, let alone gained much ground on its supposed target, Facebook. Now, Google's attempt at a social network has lost its leader and chief evangelist, Vic Gundotra, who announced today that he's leaving Google after almost eight years at the company. Gundotra, a [...]

+Robert Hof imho the prospective key feature of Google+ would be one of the most important things when we are talking about interactions and communication: verified identities. This would be the logic sequel of the idea behind circles.

If i create a #circle  called "Neighborhood" i want to be sure - really sure - that i add Mr. Smith living next door, not Mr. Jones who's pretending he is Mr. Smith (by stealing his picture and contact information from his facebook profile). If i create a circle called "Parents of Lisa's classmates" i want to be sure - really, really sure - that i include the right persons. Whether i'm doing business or private affairs - the uncomplicated possibility to be sure that i'm communicating with, sharing with or even following the right persons without making a phone call before to check their identity could be a huge step.

VideoAds that make it easy for people to install apps on their mobile devices became a surprise cash cow for Facebook. The ads reversed the social network's dismal mobile ad situation, which was blamed for helping tank its initial public offering almost two years ago, and prompted rivals such as [...]

For years, the rise of Android seemed to put almost no dent in the massive proportion of mobile traffic generated by Apple's iPhones. Various theories held that despite their rapid sales, early Android phones weren't as easy to use as iPhones, didn't have the latest and greatest apps, or simply [...]

Before their buzz was usurped in the past year by so-called native advertising that's designed to look like editorial content, engagement ads were touted by some as the next big thing in online advertising. The idea was that an engagement ad would prompt people to play a game or contest, take [...]

VideoHurt once again by falling ad prices on smartphones and tablets, Google disappointed investors with first-quarter earnings that came in slightly under expectations. Google said in its first-quarter earnings release that it earned $6.27 a share before costs such as the sale of its Motorola Mobility unit on gross revenues of [...]

Once again, it was all about mobile for the world's dominant social network. In a quarter notable mostly for the billions of dollars spent on acquisitions, Facebook managed to beat first-quarter earnings expectations by enough to please investors, thanks to a huge jump in mobile advertising revenues. The company earned a net [...]

One of Yahoo’s latest search results tests should look awfully familiar. The website All Google Testing discovered a test that turns the right column of Yahoo’s search results page into a dead ringer for Google’s Knowledge Graph. The post even offers some instructions on how to enable the test in your own browser, but I […]

Apparently Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer wants to be the default search for Apple’s Safari browser on iPhone and iPad and has been preparing to make a solid pitch. Well, we all want things we can’t have, and I’d be incredibly surprised if Yahoo got its wish here. Kara Swisher over at Re/code has the scoop, […]

Yahoo finally showed a spark of revenue growth for the first time in a long time in its first quarter. But just barely. And that raises questions anew about whether CEO Marissa Mayer's furious activity since she joined in 2012, from a flurry of acquisitions to layoffs to revamped services, [...]

You come here for the incomparable potstickers, as well as pork buns and shrimp dumplings. Cho has been here forever and while his service can be diffident, you shouldn't care. He's a gem. Hope he lives to be 120.
