A good article by +Francisco Dao for Washington Post. It is indeed very difficult to break through all the noise and information overload out there.

I think the next round of innovation should come not about sharing more info, but about filtering the noise out and mining the tidbits of relevant and coherent thought among tons and tons of junk. Google made their business helping find relevant information on the Web, someone would have a chance for a good business model doing it on social media.

Plus indeed, there are a lot of business opportunities outside the 'Net...
