“In promoting those campaigns and materials, the board shall emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect.”

Meet Wisconsin Republican State Senator Glenn Grothman. He thinks sex ed instructors have an “agenda,” that they “would like it if more kids became homosexuals.”¹ He says that state employees having Martin Luther King Day off from work “is an insult to all the other taxpayers around the state.”² He wrote a bill, now passed by the legislature, to weaken the Equal Pay Act, which protects women being paid less on the basis of their gender.³

During the union protests in Wisconsin in 2011, Grothman described the protesters as “a bunch of slobs,” and dismissed them as “college students who are having a fun party” and “unemployed people just looking for somewhere to hang out.”⁴

Now, Sen. Grothman has introduced Senate Bill 507, which would require the state Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board to say that being a single parent is contributing to child abuse.

(This bill has only been introduced; it has not yet passed any vote.)

There is actually a whole blog called “What did Glenn Grothman get wrong this week?”
