Overall visiting the bridge is nice. Bring a jacket! It is very windy there. BAD PART: The dumb toll plaza. Drive through it without paying. Then a few weeks later, they will send you a mail saying you have to pay! $7.50 (something like that)! That's just plain stupid! BRING BACK THE PEOPLE COLLECTING THE TOLLS!

Think the pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge are something to see? It is more beautiful seeing it in person. There are so many good views of the bridge but my favorite is viewing it from the are just NW of the bridge in the Marin Headlands by Battery Spencer where many photo shoots are done. Not only can you see the bridge but the city itself. It is a Wow view.

Very inspiring. Going to the fort below gets you under the bridge and then a nice hike gets you on the bridge where you can walk across. It was cool to be on a structure you've seen in so many movies and shows.

Absolutely gorgeous views even when it's foggy. The pacific on one side, the bay on the other and San Francisco right in the middle. Doesn't get better than that! You can cross the bridge by car, bike or on feet. Always get a jacket, it's always a little chilly there.

This place is just beautiful! Worth the walk no matter where or how you choose to come to this magnificent place. It is very touristy though but worth it all. There's many places to get different views of the bridge in your background and make sure you find what works best! I highly recommend visiting this place!!

World Famous Landmark in SF Pros: The bridge is beautiful. There is no other alternative. It shortens the distance between SF and Marin/North Bay. Beautiful view of the city of SF. Very distinct shade of red. Money printer for San Francisco. Cons: Traffic can be absolutely horrible for daily commuters and tourists. Also, the bridge is very narrow, so be careful driving and walking on it. Tips: Come on off hours during the weekday for the least crowded views and best scenery. Walk the bridge, but be careful of cyclists and other pedestrians. Bring a jacket and clothes; it is always VERY Cold on the bridge, even if it seems nice and sunny. Bring a camera! Overall: It is a world famous landmark, the very definition for some of SF. It is beautiful and plays an important role in SF both culturally and economically.

As a native San Franciscan, the Golden Gate Bridge has been just a bridge to go to and from Marin/North Bay. I see huddles of tourists walking to and from with their cameras as I drive by on it. It can get crowded on the weekend when you add the cyclists with the walkers. Most days, it's cold and windy, even with the sun is out. From my car seat, they look like they are shivering with their Alcatraz sweatshirts or fleece jackets. I have never personally walked on the Bridge myself. It's on my Bucket List of things to do. When I say I am from San Francisco, one of first things that is brought up is either that the person has walked it or wants to visit San Francisco and that is one of their "To Dos." It's universal, people have a strong fondness or association when it comes to this gorgeous landmark.

Awesome bike ride over the bridge and into Sausalito.. Even though I'm afraid of falling. Good times!
