Well, that’s The Photography Show 2018 finished now.

At the show itself, most of my time was spent walking around or at the ProFoto stand. There were a lot of demonstrations going on, mainly with bland setups and little meaningful input. I tried a few of the Live Stage offerings but was already too late to be in reasonable earshot and to get a good view of what was going on. They also seemed to be starting at a point that indicated it would be a waste of my time. Contrast that with the Hannah Cousins and Holly Wren sessions that I saw at the ProFoto stand. Full technique input, including style and communication considerations. They were producing images that were immediately saleable, on-stage and no fuss.

For the Keele Medics Graduation Ball 2016 I decided to use a black background for an event from the first time. Somewhat different from my usual blown white background and with different lighting issues to consider. Gallery at: http://www.willsphotoimaging.co.uk/keele-medics-2016.html

#strobists and #strobism - false doctrine or indoctrinated ?

Why do some people insist on misusing these terms ?. Do they think they are being 'cool' or 'fashionable' or does the prevalence of the use of the term Stateside and lack of general knowledge of people make them think they are actually using the correct term ?.

Last year I was 'in the market' for some lighting equipment that gave me studio quality lighting options with the ease and near portability of #speedlights. The options that were available all seemed to have long flash durations at the higher power settings. With the higher pixel count of cameras these days and also mortal for dynamic movement in images the flash duration becomes rather important. Then the #ProFoto B2 was released, expensive but it seems to be what I was looking for. In March of 2015 I 'bit the bullet' and, a year later, I have not regretted it. At the time there was a special offer of a day of instruction to get better acquainted with the system, the link goes to my experiences on the day.
