Dogs who need extra care and attention compared to other canines are deemed having special needs. Whether it be a condition from birth or a condition developed later in the dog's life, sadly, it comes with a stigma that they are too broken to keep. For this reason, in many shelters, dogs with special needs are sometimes last to find new homes.

Two amazing guests share their knowledge and stories on the topic of dogs with special needs. Elaine Reiter is with the organization Wildside Limited who takes a stand in caring for animals with special needs as well as Stephani Rizo, who runs the Miracle Foundation of San Diego and seek out those with special needs to rehabilitate and re-home them.

A SWEET CHOCOLATE SWIRL~CAPONE
EYE CONDITION pka FLYNN Brooklyn NY
TO BE DESTROYED June 13
A staff member writes: Oh Capone darling! He is a 67.8 pound, chocolate swirl, full of MUSH!! I swear he is more than sweet. He is so kind hearted and very smart. He is very active and knows commands, such as sit and give paw. It is the cutest thing ever! He also has one of the most prettiest smiles I’ve seen. I decided to take him out to the play yard one day and I am so happy i did because while we were interacting, we grew a bond and an understanding. I learned a lot about him during our time spent together. He has displayed how loving and affectionate he is, through giving hugs and kisses.
When Capone and I were in the play yard, we ran around, we played fetch and we sat together and cuddled, we also took lots of pictures and may I tell you this big boy is very photogenic . I look forward to spending more time with him and giving him all the attention and love that he needs, he deserves the best because he is soooo amazing. I would love it if he was to go into his forever home even more. If I could give him the world, I would with no hesitation. Come see this handsome young man at BACC Today!!! You won’t regret it!!

Caring for and housing rescue dogs is a world in itself; but once rescue dogs get adopted, improving or maintaining their behavior is a whole other world. Today's guests cover both arenas to make sure rescue dogs are not only as happy as they can be but as polished as they can be once adopted. Our first guest Lya, who owns and runs the non profit organization in Costa Rica called Territorio De Zaguates, also known as Land of the Strays. Our second guest, Jeff Reid, has been rehabilitating rescue dogs for over 10 years and runs Rescue Me Canine Training based in BC Canada. - See more at: http://www.petliferadio.com/saveapoochep24.html#sthash.fbM3yUm5.dpuf
