"The Buddha termed this path the 'middle way' between the harsh austerity of the ascetics he taught and the luxuries and opulence he had seen in his own upbringing." It seems like all religions are coming to the same conclusion: It's always about finding the Balance--the middle way. #FaithCounts

I just read about an individual's experience with studying Ramadan, a month in which Islamic believers dedicate themselves to "intense daily fasting, prayer, and introspection, with the ultimate goal of growing closer to God through physical and spiritual purification." The author, Katie Steed, found herself "deeply drawn to the idea of spiritual purification" the more she studied. She decided to implement her own purification/fast from things like social media and her cell phone for two weeks. She found it really difficult at first which revealed to her just how strong a dependency she had developed for those things. She also found that turning off those distractions for a while created a space of quiet in which she could better commune with God to resolve some deep conflicts she had been avoiding for a long time. #FaithCounts

I know Father's Day has passed but I guess I'm still thinking about it. Here's an awesome blog on fathers. This quote from it is insightful! "Being a father is not just the cheery idyllic picture of a man playing catch with his boy. Fatherhood is complex. It requires men who believe in sacrificing to put their families first. Fatherhood requires men willing to try and have children despite the potential for heartache. It requires men who believe they can be better fathers tomorrow than they were today." #FaithCounts

I love this post because it reminds me to slow down to identify the value in each moment (however quiet), in each person I interact with, and in each experience I have.

This post by DANIELLE MORAN highlights Michelangelo's example of faith: “Michelangelo saw things as they could become; not as they were. 'I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.'"
