On Thomas Wolfe’s birthday October 3rd, the Memorial will unveil its new walking tour guide “From Cradle to Grave: Walking in Thomas Wolfe’s Shoes.” In his writings Thomas Wolfe made a concerted effort to make note of all life as he saw it, and to remember every person, place, and event of his childhood. Many of the places of Wolfe’s youth still exist in Asheville.  And a self-guided walk around Asheville is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the writer and about local history. The tour book was made possible with funding by the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Advisory Committee, Inc.

"He had escaped from home and the encircling hills, and gone out in the world: he had made his life and work prevail with a strength that even cheated death, and now he had come home again to stay."
