One of the premiere Mexican Food restaurants in San Diego, La Puerta is located in the historic Gaslamp Quarter. TACOS, TUNES, & TEQUILA… that’s what we’re all about.

Our Sinaloa inspired family recipes demand we make nearly everything on the menu fresh daily and we never use artificial flavorings or enhancers. You simply won't find better Mexican food anywhere else in town.

Our specialty drinks are made with the freshest ingredients and juices. We squeeze every lime, and while it may take a few minutes, we strive to make a damn good drink that delivers maximum refreshment. If you're looking for tequila, we've got you covered. We've got an extensive tequila menu, serving everything from blanco to muy añejo.

I hate the idea of giving a 4 star review but here I go. Everything about this place was awesome. The food was absolutely delicious! Seriously some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. I loved the decor, the staff was friendly and I even loved the shirts they were all wearing (different rock bands). My girlfriend and I went late on a Saturday night and for how busy downtown was, the wait was only about 5 min. Now for the one thing I couldn't get over... The music was so unnecessarily loud inside. We could barely hear our waitress and stood virtually no chance at having any sort of dinner conversation. We asked if the music could possibly be turned down, as we could see that it was bothering others around us as well. Or if we could at least be moved to a table that wasn't directly under a speaker. Neither of which happened. Definitely a little frustrating. I could understand the loud music if they were a night club but they're a restaurant. I hate sounding like an old man, I'm 30 btw, but I was actually looking for a decibal meter app so I could get a measurement. Anyway, amazing food, great service. I'll definitely go back, but with earplugs next time.

Excellent food, reasonable prices. Happy hour meant half price appetizers and (some) beer!

The staff were awesome, and not the "I'm getting paid so I better be friendly" kind, but the honest to God genuinely friendly and super attentive kind. Thanks for a great experience.

Came for Taco Mania and tried their combo which was a street taco, TJ dog, and a pint of Dos Equis. The dark, cozy atmosphere was pleasantly accentuated by a live DJ who used real turntables. The food was delicious and really hit the spot. The kitchen is open until 1 am which is a plus, but $14 is ridiculous for a plate of carne asada fries.

Food was okay.. Not kid/family friendly at all and service wasn't attentive at all almost was an uncomfortable feeling... If the sign says 21 over after 3pm they should still try to make customers experience a good one! Can't say I'll ever come here again even if it's just the hubby and I..

This place has amazing margaritas and I feel like I'm always seeing them in the news for winning some culinary award. I love there Happy Hour which is a great way to try out the menu. The salsa verde is perfecto. Cool, upscale ambiance without being stuffy. This is a great spot to bring out-of-town visitors. La Puerta is a great place to start off the night! Be careful, those margaritas pack a punch.

One word....Ok 3 words 1 item!! Potato Rolled Tacos! That's all you need to know! They have them on the appetizers list and HOLY COW these are some good Rolled Tacos! The rest of their food is great too and their Taco Tuesday Specials are always awesome! Don't let the timid mood fool you....they are on a wait, and a fairly long one! If it looks steady, it's busy...if it looks busy ITS SLAMMED!! Get on the list and kill time at a variety of small dive bars around. Don't worry they will text you when your table is ready! Their carnitas street tacos are great! Their chips are homemade and you can tell! They ROCK! I've had better TJ Dogs but, if you ask for light mayo you should be good. Not a fan of the mayo but, how can you beat 2.50$ TJ dogs on special!? You can't! You will wait, you may be a bit frustrated but, in the end you will thank me for this recco cuz I'm sure you will enjoy yourself!

Located right next to Las Hadas it's not a bad place to start or end a night downtown. Mexican themes greet you at 'the door' (that's what La Puerta means in Spanish, but you should already know that). As far as food goes I wouldn't go beyond tacos and nachos here. Ok tequila selection, small patio, and 4-5 booth which seat 4-8. Solid choice most nights.
